Polytrichum juniperinum
Juniper Haircap Moss, Juniper Polytrichum Moss, Juniper Haircap
A hardy moss found on every continent, including Antarctica. It forms dense, cushion-like tufts of reddish stems topped with grey-green, lance-shaped leaves that end in red-brown tips. Notably drought-tolerant for a moss, it does well on dry acidic soils and exposed banks. That toughness makes it one of the more versatile mosses for terrarium culture, working in both open and closed setups.
