Terms of use

Last updated

These terms apply when you use verdarium.green: the plant catalogue, the terrarium planner, the journal and The Care Window newsletter. By using the site you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

Verdarium is run by Jacek Dabkiewicz, 35 West Lodge Avenue, W3 9SE, London, United Kingdom ("we", "us"). You can reach us at hello@verdarium.green.

What Verdarium is

Verdarium is a free source of information about terrarium plants. It also suggests plant combinations for a terrarium, based on the size, conditions and style you choose. You don't need an account to use any of it.

Plant information is general guidance

We research our plant data carefully and cite sources where we can. Even so, plants vary, and so do homes, vessels and growing conditions. Sources sometimes disagree, too.

  • Care information and recommendations are general guidance, not a guarantee. The planner's suggestions are produced automatically from the data we hold. We can't promise that any plant or combination will thrive in your terrarium.
  • Toxicity information may be incomplete. A plant marked as non-toxic, or with no toxicity information, may still cause a reaction in some people or animals. Keep plants away from children and pets if you aren't sure. If you think someone has eaten something harmful, contact a doctor, a vet or a poison control centre straight away. Don't rely on this site.
  • Availability information changes. Whether a plant is easy to find, or legal to collect or trade, depends on where you are and changes over time. Never collect plants from the wild without permission, and check local rules on protected species.

The text, data, design and code of Verdarium belong to us, except where stated otherwise. You may read, share links to, and print pages for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may quote short extracts with a link back to the source page.

Many plant photographs are used under licences from their authors (for example Creative Commons licences). The credit and licence are shown with each image, and those terms, not ours, apply to the image.

Please don't copy the catalogue or its data in bulk, republish our articles, or use our content to train machine-learning models without our written permission.

Using the site fairly

Please don't:

  • use the site in a way that breaks the law or infringes anyone's rights;
  • try to disrupt the site, get around its security, or overload it, for example with heavy automated scraping;
  • sign up other people to the newsletter, or sign up automatically.

We may block access from anyone who does.

The newsletter

The Care Window is free and you can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every issue. How we handle your email address is explained in the privacy notice.

We link to other sites, such as sources, suppliers and social media. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content or how they handle your data.

Availability and changes

We may change, pause or remove any part of the site at any time. We try to keep it running and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free.

We may update these terms, for example when user accounts are introduced. The date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Liability

Verdarium is provided free of charge and "as is". To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or from relying on its content. This includes the loss of plants and any harm to people or animals caused by plants.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, and for fraud. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United Kingdom. The courts of United Kingdom have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living in the UK or the EU, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country, and you can bring a claim in your local courts.
