Rhodobryum giganteum
Umbrella Moss, Rose Moss, Giant Rose Moss
A moss from the cloud forests of tropical and subtropical Asia, where it grows on shaded forest floors, mossy banks, and decaying logs at elevations around 1,000–2,000 m. Its long, bare stems are each topped with a dense whorl of broad, paddle-shaped leaves that fan outward like a miniature flower — which is why it is also sold as 'rose moss'. It does best in high humidity around 70% with indirect light and consistently moist substrate, making it well suited to ventilated closed terrariums. The rosettes reach 5–10 cm and create a bold, sculptural focal point in naturalistic setups.
