Crassula ovata 'Minima'
Miniature Jade, Mini Jade, Dwarf Jade, Small Jade
Crassula ovata 'Minima' is a dwarf cultivar of the jade plant, a succulent shrub that grows wild on rocky hillsides in the valley thicket of South Africa's Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, extending into southern Mozambique. It keeps the species' thick, branching stems and rounded, fleshy leaves, but at a smaller scale and a much slower pace — the RHS gives 5–10 years to reach its eventual 50–100 cm, so the 5–20 cm plants sold for terrariums stay tree-like and compact for years with occasional pruning. The leaf edges often flush red in strong sun, and established plants may produce flat clusters of small, pale pink starry flowers in autumn and winter. It does best in an open terrarium with full sun and gritty soil that dries completely between waterings; the still, humid air of a closed vessel tends to rot it.

Propagation
A stem cutting is the quickest route to a new plant. Cut a short branch tip, then leave it on a dry, shaded sill for a few days so the wound calluses and stops weeping sap before it goes into the soil. Set it about 2–3 cm deep in dry, gritty mix, keep it in bright shade, and water only sparingly until new growth shows — roots usually form within two to four weeks.
Native range
Native to South Tropical Africa and Southern Africa.
