Peperomia verticillata
Red Trailing Peperomia, Itsy Bitsy Peperomia, Rubella Peperomia, Belly Button Peperomia, Dwarf Peperomia
A small epiphyte from the Caribbean, best known for the vivid scarlet underside of its leaves — a detail easy to miss until a stem shifts and reveals the contrast against the olive-green upper surface. In the wild it clings to tree bark in Jamaica, Cuba, and Hispaniola, and in a terrarium it performs exactly as it would there: thriving in warmth, high humidity, and indirect light with minimal fuss. Stems start upright but trail as they lengthen, making the plant natural for cascading over rocks or mounting on cork bark. It does best at 15–26 °C with humidity above 60%; let the substrate partially dry between waterings to protect the semi-succulent roots from rot.
