Peperomia tetragona

Parallel Peperomia, Radiator Plant

Easy careSemi-epiphyteNon-toxic1530 cm

A semi-succulent epiphyte from the rainforests of western and southern South America, sold most often under its former horticultural name Peperomia puteolata. Each stem carries whorls of three or four oval leaves in deep green, with four pale veins running in clean parallel lines from base to tip — the detail that gave rise to the common name 'Parallel Peperomia'. Stems start upright and gradually elongate into trailing cascades, making the plant well suited to climbing over rocks or spilling across terrarium hardscape. It does best in 18–24 °C with moderate-to-high humidity, and like most semi-succulents it needs the top few centimetres of substrate to dry out between waterings.

Propagation

Take a stem tip cutting of 3–4 cm with at least one node, removing lower leaves to expose the node. Plant in a well-draining peat and perlite mix and keep at around 20–21 °C with high humidity — a clear plastic cover or propagation dome will help. Roots typically appear within two to four weeks.
