Ceratostylis philippinensis Rolfe ex Ames
Philippine Ceratostylis
A miniature epiphytic orchid from the montane forests of the Philippines, where it grows mounted on trees at elevations between 700 and 2,100 metres. It forms dense clumps of small, upright stems — each topped with a single terete (pencil-thin, cylindrical) leaf — and produces a succession of tiny, fragrant, snow-white flowers throughout the year, each barely a centimetre across. In cultivation it does best mounted on cork bark or grown in a mesh pot with long-fibre sphagnum, where its roots can breathe freely and stay evenly moist. It thrives in the steady humidity and gentle airflow of a terrarium or vivarium, making it one of the more rewarding miniature orchids for enclosed growing — provided air circulation is maintained.
